LUCAFFÉ

The Lucaffé Coffee Roasting Company was founded in 1996 on the shores of Lake Garda at Padenghe sul Garda by Gian Luca Venturelli. After years of studying espresso at university, Gian started working with growers in South America and began nurturing the passion and intensity that became his espresso philosophy. The company grew rapidly and expanded further in 2004, moving to its new headquarters at Carpenedolo (Brescia).

Lucaffé is famous for its attention to quality and consistency of roasting. Each roast is handled with the same attention to detail whether it is one of Gian Luca’s special blends or one of their single origin espressos.

HOW IT ALL

STARTED

Our story and obsession with Lucaffé began with my first business trip to Italy in 2007. Totally exhausted, I landed in Milan after an all-night flight at 7:00 AM and had to jump in a rental car for the 3-hour drive to my hotel. I stopped at the first rest area I could find and was greeted with the typical Italian café scene, customers standing two deep across the bar with the baristas handing out espresso so fast they were a blur. After 4 or 5 shots I was sufficiently hyped up to finish my journey and haven’t had “American” coffee since!

Upon returning home I bought an espresso machine and grinder and began my search for the best Italian espresso I could find here in the U.S. We must have tried every single Italian espresso we could find online and Lucaffé was far and away the best tasting in our opinion! So, we plowed forward grinding, tamping and drawing espresso shots, loving our Lucaffé and sharing it with everyone we could.

Fast forward to 2017, we got word that Lucaffé came up with a patented “smart pod.” All the amazing taste we have enjoyed over the years and none of the mess! This to me sounded too good to be true, if it was, we needed to bring this to the U.S. I was already planning a trip to Italy in the fall of 2018 and thought why not check out this smart pod system myself. So, I made plans to spend a couple of days learning as much as I could about the LaPiccola machines and the Lucaffé roasting process. We were so impressed we were ready to bring Lucaffé and LaPiccola to the States! We have been slowed down by these difficult times but are super excited to finally be able to launch Lucaffé Smart online and local delivery in the KC area! “I was introduced to the Lucaffé espresso machine by a friend of mine who told me he thought it was the best espresso he’d ever had, and after trying a sample I agreed, it’s amazing espresso! I ran some numbers on my wife’s borderline religion with Starbucks monthly expenses and convinced her it was worth trying out. It took us about a week to figure out the right amount of milk, creamer, and syrup but once we had it dialed in it’s easy. Only thing to watch out for is keeping the steam nozzle clean and wiped down right after use. I love this espresso and totally recommend Lucaffé!”
